Tim's Garden

As the 2009 summer season is approaching, it is time to start gathering things to get the new garden ready for this year. The ground will have to be tilled and plots will have to be established of where to plant everything. Some people like myself will start plants from seeds indoors to get a jump on the growing season. In Indiana spring teases you into thinking that summer is here and then when you don't expect it, here comes the freezing frost temperatures at night which will just ruin your plants. So patience is a virtue around here!

Last year, 2008 was my first year to plant a large garden. As I was growing up, my family always had a large garden but I just have never taken the time to do such a thing until 2008. My young boys and I had really planted a great garden in our rather small backyard and was starting to watch everything really start producing the fruit of our labor.

It was not for me to enjoy though as an unfortunate event was about to happen that would change my life forever. In July of 2008 just when all my plants were looking real good, I had a bad fire accident involving a firepit. This accident put me in the hospital for the remainder of the summer. My boys and neighbor did what they could to harvest our garden and even do some canning and freezing of my vegetables. I was very greatful for their efforts because we were able to have some pretty good food over the winter.

This 2009 growing season is already off to a good start and I have many plants already started indoors and waiting on the weather to break so we can get to planting. The whole family is excited this year to have a garden and we just hope that no accidents this year will hender our good fortune.
